1. Acceptance of Donations
Acceptance of any contribution, gift, or grant is at the sole discretion of The People Foundation (The People FDN). The People FDN will not accept any donation unless it can be used or expended in a manner consistent with the purpose, mission, and charitable objectives of the Foundation.
2. Donor Financial Security
No irrevocable gift—whether outright or life-income in character—will be accepted if, under any reasonable set of circumstances, the gift would jeopardize the donor’s financial security or well-being.
3. Non-Refundable Donations
All donations made to The People FDN are final and non-refundable. Once a donation is completed, it cannot be revoked, cancelled, or refunded.
4. Tax & Legal Advice Disclaimer
The People FDN does not provide tax, legal, or financial advice. Donors are encouraged to seek guidance from their own professional advisers regarding the tax or other treatment of gifts before making a donation.
5. Types of Acceptable Gifts
The People FDN generally accepts:

6. Gifts Requiring Prior Review
Certain donations must be reviewed and approved prior to acceptance, including but not limited to:
Such gifts may raise special obligations, liabilities, or administrative burdens for The People FDN.
7. Donation Receipts & Acknowledgements
The People FDN will provide donation acknowledgements in accordance with Canadian tax laws for property received as a gift.
Except for cash and publicly traded securities, no monetary value will be assigned to any receipt or other form of substantiation issued by The People FDN.
8. Restricted & Anonymous Gifts
The People FDN will respect the donor’s intent for gifts made for restricted purposes, provided such restrictions align with the Foundation’s mission and legal obligations.
For anonymous donations, donor information will be restricted to only those staff members with a legitimate need to know, and confidentiality will be maintained to the fullest extent permitted by law.
9. No Third-Party Compensation
The People FDN will not compensate any third party—whether through commissions, finder’s fees, or any other means—for directing a donor or donation to the Foundation.
10. Right of Refusal
The People FDN reserves the right to decline any donation that does not align with its mission, values, legal requirements, or operational capacity.
11. Amendments
The People FDN reserves the right to amend or update this policy at any time without prior notice.
12. Acceptance of Terms
By making a donation, the donor acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agreed to these Donation Terms & Gift Acceptance Policy.
